Oil separator

Oil separator: saving costs in less than a year

Petroleum products are used in a wide range of industrial works. These uses include cooling and lubrication, fueling, and transmission of mechanical energy in hydraulic systems.

As long as the oil remains clean, the operation will proceed optimally. But when the oil is contaminated by water or particles, its properties quickly decrease and cause costly problems in production. For example, modern hydraulic systems will only perform optimally if oil with a high degree of cleanliness is used.

The cost of buying oils is significant, but sometimes the cost of disposing of used oils is even higher. Environmental requirements are imposing more and more stringent rules regarding the reduction of runoff and erosion. In other words, factories should use their oils for as long as possible.

Alfa Laval Centrifuge Separator separates the particles and water in the oil at the same time.

Advantages of using a separator

Using clean oils always brings significant benefits, including:

  • Reducing the costs of buying and disposing of oil and filter cartridges
  • Increasing production time (uptime)
  • Reducing erosion and corrosion of equipment
Even the cleanest oils are contaminated

At first glance, the oil may seem clean. But as it passes through the separator, you will realize that appearances can be deceiving and water and fine particles are hidden in the oil.

All oils contain water

Water enters the oil through leakage and distillation and has several negative effects on the properties of the oil and the overall performance of the system:

  • Oxidation of oil and its additives, which causes the formation of hard particles
  • Formation of high-density emulsions that damage valves and pumps
  • Reducing oil viscosity and lubrication
  • Reducing the lifespan of bearings
  • Corrosion and rust

Easy installation of separator

Alfa Laval separators are offered as completely independent and modular systems. Each module is factory tested and ready for immediate use.

The installation and setup of these devices is simple and there is no need to change the existing systems. Just connect the pipes, electricity and water and press the start button on the separator.

By-Pass

All the separation process is done near the oil tank. Dirty oil is pumped from the tank, cleaned in the separator and re-entered the system. This bypass principle means that oil cleaning is done continuously, even during production.

Flexibility in use

Another outstanding feature of separators is that they can be used for different types of oil. After cleaning the tank, the separator can be used in another production unit. Alfa Laval separators are designed with minimal control buttons.

Saving money with Separator

Don’t forget: wherever oil is used, there is an opportunity to save money.

Separators were first used exclusively in the food processing industry, but the technology quickly became an essential part of many other industries. Today, Alfa Laval offers a wide range of separators for cleaning industrial fluids, coolants, detergents, oils, emulsions, machining soaps and paints.
